Playground

(Also known as "Mario World" or "Coyote Flats".  May also have other local names.)

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:  Not marked on map.  Probably would be considered  to , depending on route.
  • Type of trail:  OUT OF BOUNDS!  Do not enter this area without a guide who is familiar with it.  More than one person has missed the exit and rescue parties have had to be sent out.
  • After coming down the first "swoosh" of Gray Wolf and up the first rise, there is a rope that you can normally see where people have ducked under.  The area is treed and has both tight and open areas.  Much of the area is close to flat, but other areas are considerably steeper.  With the right skis and a guide familiar with the area, you can up or dial back the challenge as needed.  The exit is either before the main drop and back onto Gray Wolf, OR on a road that may not be visible if you go too far to the left as you descend.  The further to the left you drift, the more likely you are to have to pole your way back to the right to return to Gray Wolf when you reach this road.  MISSING THE ROAD AND CONTINUING DOWN THE HILL IS A MISTAKE!!!!!

View approaching Playground:

This is on the rise after the first drop on Gray Wolf.  The normal entrance is off to the left.

Looking back.  Entrance could be anywhere along this area (now on right):
