George's Gorge

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  Natural terrain area.  Gorge filled with trees.
  • Coming down Goat Haunt or Whitetail will bring you to the top of this area.  In a way, it is a natural half-pipe.  It attracts not only the terrain park crowd, but also little kids.  It is important to exit as the more forested area appears or you could find yourself climbing out of it at the end and sometimes the snow over the creek down in that section has large holes that people have plunged into.

View approaching George's Gorge:

Seen from the side.  Goat Haunt is the trail on the left.  The entry to George's Gorge is where the small triangle of trees is (move mouse over picture).

Entrance to George's Gorge from Goat Haunt, early season (trees get further apart as the snow depth increases):

Looking down the gorge a bit from roughly the same spot:

Moving down the gorge, but all looking up the hill:

Right about here is where you should get out:

End of the gorge as seen from Whitetail:

You want to exit into the groomed area under the chair before proceeding into the area with the taller trees.  ...Unless you want an adventure...
