Moose

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:  Used to be rated ...but...all of a sudden with the 2012-13 season, the map shows it as .  If it's groomed, I'd consider it closer to a .  Early season before the gorge has filled in, it's closer to a black.  The sign AT the trail still reads that it is expert.
  • Type of trail:  Cruiser with a narrow section.  Groomed on occasion.  Early season can be sort of "dished" because it's a gorge during the off season.  As it fills up, it gets less concave.
  • Head down the Ant Hill, onto Russ's Street, passing the exit to Goat Haunt and it's the next right.  The bottom of this trail empties back onto Russ's Street.

View approaching Moose:

We had a LOT of snow the season this picture was taken.  Normally, the sign is MUCH more visible!  On the left is Russ's Street.  Moose heads down to the right.

View at top of Moose:

At the bottom of the first pitch there is a hump which forces you to choose straight or right.  It quickly re-joins then skirts around another hump which is used as a terrain feature by some:

First hump, looking down, you can decide to go up and over or around to the right:

View of first pitch from atop the first hump:

Looking back up from between the two humps, having taken the right hand route.

View of second hump if you go up and over.  Coming in from the right is that alternate route.

Looking up at second hump from below:

Hump is on left.  Those who dislike terrain "features" will be coming out on the right.
