Whitey's

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  Steep, ungroomed
  • Looking down the Ant Hill, off to the right on the ridge of East Rim, a cat track can be seen.  The lower third of the Ant Hill should be straight-lined because the track initially has an upward pitch.  Ski along the ridge and Whitey's can either be accessed via The Nose (aka East Rim) or by cutting left half way down East Rim Face.  Whitey's can also be accessed by taking Moe-Mentum until just past East Rim Face, then cutting into a path you'll see on the left, right on the top part of the pitch just past the Face.
  • The bottom splits into two exit areas.  One, to skier's left, is steeper, but the trees are easier to negotiate and there is no "whoop de do" at the end.  The second is used more frequently and is more moguled and has more trees, followed normally by quite a lip (and lift!) coming onto Moe-Mentum.

This picture is taken from the west and shows the three main routes to get to Whitey's.  The top route (via The Nose) uses terrain marked double black.  The other two routes are only black level.  Perhaps the easiest route in fog is the lowest route.

From the east.  This shows the left exit into the trees, leading onto Russ's Street:

Continuing straight will bring you down The Nose.  Heading right will take you down East Rim Face:

The area crossed before you get over to the clear area of Whitey's is known as "Tighty Whitey's".

Views on Whitey's

This cliff is NOT the one in the picture two pictures above.  This is the cliff shown further across and down the hill and is seen in the picture higher up taken from the east.  This cliff contains East Rim Chutes.:

Looking towards the west, not quite the same vantage point.  This may be higher up, but is definitely closer to the right hand exit:
