Powder Bowl

(Includes the cleared area marked as Larch on the map.  On-mountain signage labels Larch differently from the published trail map)

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  Small. lightly-treed area between Little Bavaria and Larch.  The difference between Little Bavaria and Powder Bowl is murky.  There is also a map/signage discrepancy between Powder Bowl and Larch.  The trail map labels an area I've always considered to be "Power Bowl" as being "Larch".  I decided to go with the on-mountain signage as that's how everyone I know refers to these areas.
  • Accessed from Ptarmigan Bowl, Benches, or The Chute.  A cat track passes Heep Steep and Powder Bowl is just past Little Bavaria on the left.

This is looking up the Bench Run.  Powder Bowl is the clear area in the bottom right corner.  Normally, it's not gated off.  This picture is from when the NorAm's were here.
