Ptarmigan Bowl

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  Bowl skiing, usually at least one section is groomed.  Dicey in the upper area on foggy days.  Many people experience severe vertigo due to the lack of trees and other landmarks.
  • Getting off Chair 1, head back over your right shoulder towards the front of the mountain and take the right fork as you leave the lift area.  Ptarmigan Bowl is the part of the bowl skier's right of the chair lift.  Skier's left of the lift as you descend is never groomed, has some trees, and is considered The Face.
  • Be aware there are a lot of people bombing down the center of this area, trying to keep enough speed to go up the other side.  Since everything converges, keep an eye out for this stuff as you descend.

The left ungroomed area is also referred to as "Little New Cut".  The center groomed area is what is thought of as the Bowl.
