Big Face

(aka The Face)

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  Lightly treed area on the east side of Chair One.
  • Accessed from Inspiration or from the top of Toni Matt.
  • Because this area faces south and is on the windward side of the mountain, conditions can vary considerably.  What looks great from Chair One can turn out to be something else entirely once you are in it.  Because of that, pay special attention to the number of people hitting it, the number of tracks traversing out of it, and the skill and success of those heading down.  When there is fresh powder, you can expect WAVES of people heading down the hill.  In the spring, the best time to hit this area tends to be in the PM when the snow has softened.
  • There is one section that is clear of trees just under Chair One.  Occasionally it is groomed.
