Highway to Heaven

(aka "The Traverse")

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  ENDLESS (1 mile) narrow cat track out of Hellroaring Basin.  Although groomed occasionally, normally full of dips/pockmarks from people braking using a snowplow or snowboard edge.  Can be an area with multi-body pile ups and is not a great place for the snowboarder with less than perfect skills.
  • Begins at the basin area where Glory Hole, Picture Chutes, Connie's, et al meet up and cuts through Teepee.  Makes its way under Chair 8 and comes out onto the bottom of Swift Creek.
  • I have few pictures of this run because stopping would be a good way to cause an accident.  Also, in eight years I've been on it three times.  It's entirely possible I will not go on it this year, either!

Overview of area:

Views from Gray's Golf Course:

The Traverse is the trail you see cutting through the trees.

It begins in the basin area below Picture Chutes:
