1000 Turns

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:  , BUT on older maps it's a .  Probably changed due to the fact that the pitch is deceiving and you pick up more and more speed unless you severely control your turns.  The trail is quite narrow and requires good speed control.
  • Type of trail:  Always groomed, but narrow.  Primarily a "fog alternative" to Big Ravine, or an access trail to Teepee (Area 51).
  • Getting off Chair 1, head back over your right shoulder towards the front of the mountain and take the right fork as you leave the lift area.  Head down Big Ravine and watch the right side for the first "road".  There are two "roads" leading off to the right.  The first one is 1000 Turns, the second takes you to School Road.
  • Be sure to look up hill over your left shoulder at the bottom of the run, ESPECIALLY if you are cutting across Interstate to continue down Big Ravine.  There are others coming down Big Ravine, also at fairly high speed, heading onto Interstate to go over to the Chair Two area.
  • This is NOT a trail to stop on unless you want to go down the hill in a sled.  Hence, few pictures.  The two I took are all I plan to take.

Overview of the trail:

Entrance to 1000 Turns:

The road you see leading straight is School Road.  1000 Turns is the thing leading off to the right in this picture.  Not that visible.

The opening is shown on the left side of this picture:

On the trail itself, looking uphill, then downhill:

1000 Turns comes in from the right.  This picture is ON Big Ravine.  The road leading away to the left is Interstate.
