Central Avenue and the Armory

(This trail was formerly known as "Question Mark")

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:
  • Type of trail:  Depending on your route, this is either a cruiser for intermediates or a terrain park with larger features.  Lit for night skiing when it is offered.
  • Central Avenue is the TRAIL.  "The Armory" is the terrain park that is ON the trail.  The features seem to move around quite a bit season to season.  The whole area is a large triangle with multiple entrances converging.
  • There are three routes to this area.
    • The routes resulting in the longest run and the fastest lift to get up the hill again would be via Chair Two.  Take a left off the lift and either use Hellroaring or Swift Creek to take you to Home Again, then follow Home Again until you come to Central Ave and the Armory.  You can also detour down Ranger Trail and not follow it around the bend, but proceed straight ahead.  This brings you to the area seen in the last picture below.  The problem with riding Chair Two is you need to get back to it.  You need to either look for the connectors back to Ranger Trail and Ski Way or keep left as Central Avenue meets up with Hope Slope and follow the traverse back to Chair Two.
    • Or, you can just take Chair Three, but it's SLOW.  On the other hand you don't have to worry about getting back to it..
  • Please note that terrain park features change over the years.  Do not rely on the pictures below for much beyond judging the slope and the overall environment.  Refer to the resort's website for information on current terrain park features and routes.

Overview of area seen from Middle Fork:

Central Avenue is the trail lit by the strings of scattered lights.  The trail lit by the straight string of lights is Hope Slope.  It's hard to tell in this picture that the area is a large triangle.

View of approach from Home Again:

Views of slope without terrain park features:

View with beginnings of park features.  Most still under construction when the picture was taken:

View of the entrance via Ranger Trail:

Looking down from the picture above.  The piece of the slope in the FIRST PICTURE above would be to the right of the little shack and following the tree line up.  One of the connectors back to Ranger Trail can be just barely seen as a trail sign in the left hand line of trees.
